League Rules

1. Game Rules

  2. Game Fees shall be set by each Region as appropriate.
  3. All teams should be ready to commence play at the published time on the fixture list. Teams should be ready to play 15 mins before the published time in the event of the schedule running early. Any team not being ready to start within 15 minutes of the published game time will forfeit the game (see (m) below for the penalty for forfeit games).
  4. Team Sheets must be handed in to the Timekeepers desk at least 15 mins prior to the game (only those players playing in the game may be recorded on the team sheet) along with registration cards and game fees.
  5. Where a game is terminated by the referee.
  6. A team must have 5 players on the rink to be able to start a game.
  7. Warm Up time shall be a maximum of 5 minutes. This may be cut if the previous game has run late.
  8. Teams must provide their own warm-up pucks. GBHI does not supply warm-up pucks.
  9. Teams may be asked to stay on the rink after their match for Player of the Match Awards.
  10. Penalty lengths will be as the current IIHF rule book.
  11. 3 Strikes and Out Rule - Any Player given 4.5 or more penalty minutes during the same game shall be ejected from that game. The Timekeeper shall inform the Referee upon the award of the qualifying penalty and the Referee shall inform the Player that he is ejected from the game and shall leave the rink immediately. A substitute Player from the same Team shall be provided to serve the remaining penalty time outstanding. The ejection will be valid only for the game in which the ejection occurred.
  12. There shall be NO playing of puck/ball/litter etc off the playing surface at ANY time.
  13. Forfeit Games. Where a team fails to turn up for a game.

2. Officials

Teams may have a maximum of four officials on their team bench for a game. All officials must be registered with GBHI and must be on the team sheet PRIOR to the start of the game. No officials may be added once the game has started. Teams and/or spectators must not congregate behind the team benches whilst games are in progress.

3. League Placing

    • During a game - the referee's decision is final.
    • After a game
  2. Cup Competitions and other Tournaments may have their own local rules which will be published before the tournament.
